Hi George,

One of the problems with IRC is that it requires people to be on at
the same time and it might be difficult to find people who are on at
exactly the same time as you, especially when most people live in
different time zones (for example, it's now 10:05 am here in Tokyo).

You might have better luck asking if someone wants to play CF with you
and then arranging to meet up online at the same time.

I can attest to that. I went to Freenode, #Crimson-Lobby and am now the
only one there (besides ChanServ). Glad I did, since some of my XChat
settings were stale. Haven't been back to Chatspike in a while.

I registered my old nick "Narn_Metals_Ltd". BTW it is 9:30 PM where I
am (within howitzer range of Columbus, OH).

PBEM mode is exactly transfer of specially modified hotseat saves with passwords. So PBEM is a sl0w play mode for those very patient and not anus-minded. So I prefer average netplay. Erm, looks like I'll need to find a different TBS.

With all due respect George, your posts come across as extremely
arrogant, insulting and hypocritical.

Calling people anus-minded and insulting the method with which same
people use to communicate will not win you friends. You are more
likely to swiftly lose any friends you have which will result in you
not being able to pay with anyone.

You seem to be knowledgeable about a lot of technical things,
certainly more so than I, but your sociological and diplomatic skills
leave a lot to be desired. If you could refrain from using insulting
language, provide positive suggestions in a supportive manner and not
try to "take control", you'll find not only that you and your ideas
would be welcomed, but also that your ideas would be implemented. You
would become a part of the team and help make whichever project you
choose to help grow.

Judging from your brief performance here, you will be bouncing around
from group to group for a very long time. I sincerely hope that you
prove me wrong, but I am sure that I am not alone in gladly letting
you move swiftly on.

Ah.. I see. If that was your intention then I apologize.

It appeared as though you wanted to say that PBEM "is too slow for
people" who are patient and not anus-minded. Thereby implying that
those people who do play PBEM are not patient and are anus-minded.

I know that "PBEM being played by impatient people" is in itself
contradictory, but I couldn't ready your post any other way.

Well, I know that you need a 40kb patch for IRC+GGZ to use an IRC channel as a metaserver. (We can use the "Away reason" element of IRC for host signatures. Before the protocols are implemented, please consider adding the Freenode web client into the website - with web IRC, anyone can start a non-tracking server by making a channel on Freenode. Convert the time of this message for your region and you'll know the time it's likely for you to find me on the IRC channel. You could now just implement IRC and a host-tracking protocol into the game itself - and the netplay center is ready for all the community. When that's done, I'll bounce off to next TBS as I'm looking for a decent free multiplayer TBS in each category (medieval, magic, WW2, modern, sci-fi).
